Originally a solid brick two storey, non-descript home symmetrical in appearance & long abandoned by its previous home owners, the house sat idle for many years with its shape, size and state rendered useless. It was deemed too expensive to renovate back into a new home with rising damp & poor planning & a novel solution was sought to recycle the building & transform it into two attached dwellings. Many of the structural components were retained including all the internal & external walls, concrete slab & roof structure. Interestingly, the previous owner had constructed a double brick wall right down the middle of the home with openings to access either side of the dwelling; this wall was to become the new separating wall for the two dwellings. The planning of the existing rooms also allowed for them to be retained and converted to new uses. The original outer brick work was rendered and new windows replaced the old.  Articulating details such as cement sheeting, timber battens and the use of add on features such as fencing, pergolas etc. allowed for the new dwellings to be differentiated from the street. The front garden was excavated to create two new single garages with central access to the dwellings via individual staircases from the street. The top of the garages can be accessed from the front garden and act as entertaining terraces with views of the surrounding valley. Contemporary materials such as porcelain tiles, timber wall panels, a creative colour scheme and feature lighting create modern interiors that flow into outdoor garden areas.
