At the ART FACTORY residential development, we wanted to create a point of difference not only for the occupants but for the area. The design inspiration came about because of the various design oriented businesses situated around the site, a graphic designer and a sound recording studio for instance. Their business is clearly identifiable with visual graphics displayed on their buildings. We also noted that driving over the Pascoe Vale overpass that our building too would be highly visible with motorist’s staring into the landscape viewing bill boards and the roofs of surrounding buildings. So the ART FACTORY was born. We would design a building that was influenced not only by its surrounding industrial architecture but also the type of businesses that resided there. We too would use graphics and images that could be viewed and enjoyed from street level and the over pass and the occupants.

Our design solution would provide artistic images on the roller doors of the units situated in the laneway and on the windows of the upper level facing west and viewed from the overpass. Graphics would identify each unit and the internal spaces too would be influenced by industrial architecture creating spaces that could be used for multi uses and finished using natural materials such as exposed brickwork, exposed timber rafters, polished concrete feature walls in timber similar to warehouse conversions.
